Born in Tokyo, 1954. Directed his first film CLOSING TIME in 1996 and set up Monkey Town Productions. He mostly directs his original screenplays. His films Bootleg Film (‘98), Koroshi (‘00), Man Walking on Snow (‘01) and Bashing (‘05) were all invited to Cannes. The Rebirth (‘07) won four awards at Locarno, including the Golden Leopard. His previous film was Haru’s Journey (‘10).
