Born in 1977 in Kobe. Experienced documentary filmmaking while studying screenwriting at the Japan Academy of Moving Images, founded by the late Shohei Imamura, and became attracted by the prospect of meeting, talking, and interacting with people. Began making documentaries for television after graduating, and has directed shoots around Japan and abroad for numerous documentary programs.
